Congratulations to Kentucky's Hill on Wheels, your 2007-2008 DIII National Champions!
Today was the final day of the DIII National Championship Tournament. Six teams battled today for first place, but Hill on Wheels, led by coach Julie Duncan, took home the gold.
Play began at 8:30 this morning with the Music City Lightning and the Connecticut Spokebenders on one court while the Ft Wayne Bandits battled the Moraine Minutement nearby. A quick bucket from Spokebender, Kelly Loth, with 2 seconds to go, resulted in a tie with the Lightning, and sent the two into overtime. Connecticut ended up pulling out the win, 54 to 52 against Music City. Ft. Wayne also pulled in a win against the Moraine Minutemen, 46-36.
Final game results are as follows:
Game 46: Music City 52 vs Connecticut 54
Game 47: Ft Wayne 46 vs Moraine 36
Game 48: Connecticut 39 vs Ft Wayne 51
Game 49: Port City 51 vs Ft Wayne 47
Port City then went on to the final game against Hill on Wheels for the championship. Port City gave a great fight against the Kentucky team, but it was not enough to pull off the title. Hill on Wheels maintained a confident lead throughout most of the game and, in the end, finished the game victoriously with a score of 64 to 54.
