Oscar Mireles's girlfriend's Barb Berling's brother dies

THAT'S ANDY SCHRAMM - This photo, used on Tuesday's Page One, captures much of the essence of the Rev. Andrew Schramm, who died Monday. He was involved and caring, always hoping to make a positive difference in the lives of people and the community.

If someone did not know the Rev. Andrew Schramm and you wanted to give the person an idea of what Schramm was like, show the person the photo that was on Tuesday's Page One, accompanying the story about Schramm's death.

That photo, showing him working with Samantha Diedrich at Westminster Preschool a couple of years ago, tells so much about Andy Schramm.

If he thought he could help, he helped. Whether through a kind word, prayer or rolling up his sleeves and doggedly pursuing a goal, Andy Schramm did more than just care. He cared andacted.

He was the best kind of leader, one who led through being a servant. He graced so many organizations with his time and talents - his church, Westminster Presbyterian, and its preschool, Family Service Society, St. Martin Community Center, the Court Appointed Special Advocate program, Marion Rotary Club, Marion Ministerial Association, uncounted numbers of families and children and the community in general.

To know Andy Schramm was to know a man of both grace and strength, who could both laugh and cry with people and also listen with his heart as well as his ears.

His eyes were kind and his voice was gentle, but his faith and determination were strong and unswerving.

If young Samantha Diedrich doesn't yet know how fortunate she is to have had contact with Andy Schramm, she will one of these days. Andy touched many lives, young and old, and he left our part of the world better than it was when he arrived

Carlos does his open beer bottle interviews

In the Christmas video Carlos was last seen interviewing his nephew Duane Mireles who was still underage at the time. Here Carlos is seen interviewing Trey Mireles right before the Batchelor Party started.

Older brother Julian (who had his 60th birthday in December) and is going back to school took some time off from studying to come to his baby sisters party. Posted by Picasa

Oscar and the Packers start the season 0-2

Oscar Mireles the owner of The Crystal City Cruisers Fantasy Football Team lost today to Gary Vargas's team the Bulletheads. Dante Culpepper has been a major disappointment and I left the running back from the Chicago Bears (Jones)on the bench with 29 points.

I only could watch the second half of the Packers game. Packers and Minnesota 0-2 for the first time in history.

Trey Mireles celebrates his Bachelors' Party

Not much happened. A couple of his friends went to a Brewmasters expo and drank some microbrews. He got a grey t-shirt with writing about a scavenger hunt on it. His uncles stopped by his Dad's house to watch the Badgers play against North Carolina. He has some girls come over for a little while and we went to Vintage Rock and listened to some smoke filled (yes... the bars in Madison are "smoke free") dance music.

See you at the Wedding on the first.

Juanita Ayala celebrates her 40th Birthday

It was a nice surprise birthday party held at Victor Mireles's house.

Carlos Mireles found a 1991 Mireles Christmas Eve party video that was held at Felix Mireles Jr.'s house on LaSalle Street. It was nice to see Abuelita Micky get alot of christmas presents and those post 80's flying helmet hairdo's on all the girls (especially Gloria). Victor had a pretty tight white turtle neck, and I am still trying to figure out the reason my own family did not make it that night...but that will be another post.

By the way on my trip to Columbus, I put my LG cell phone charger in my suitcase and it did not make the trip back, but I did get a note from the TSA that they checked my bag.

So that is why I have no pictures to post. My car charger is working right now... and maybe I can post some photos later this week.

Sergio visits the University of Chicago

Barb and I drove down to the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago to meet with Wrestling Coach Leo Kocher and get a tour of the University of Chicago.

The U of Chicago is an excellent academic school founded by John D. Rockefeller. It was one of the original members of the Big Ten Football Conference and is currently a Division 3 wrestling School.

The U of Chicago is a beautiful campus and has the same logo as the Chicago Bears

There is also a Frank Lloyd Wright house located across from the Graduate School of Buisness.

Oscar goes to Ohio State for a day

Oscar had to do some literacy training in Columbus, Ohio and the University of Texas Longhorn Football Team was in town to play a game on Sturday. Oscar went to the "shoe" and took some pictures.
