Maria Bocanegra Entered into Life: 5-25-1907 Entered into Eternal Rest: 5-26-2006

Yesterday afternoon I had posted a picture of our Tia Maria Bocanegra who celebrated her 99th Birthday. Unfortunately, her injury turned fatal and passed away early this afternoon at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio Texas.

I just got off the phone with her Daughter (Flora) and they don't yet have any information on the Services.

She is Aunt to Felix Mireles, Elisa Patena and Juan Mireles of Sturtevant, WI

Maria was married to Erasmo Bocanegra (deceased), our Grandmother's (Aurelia) Brother.

Today she turns 99 years old. Unfortunately this past Sunday, she was taken to the hospital in San Antonio. She lost her balance and possibly fractured her ankle.
Benito Patena (my Dad) called the hospital yesterday and heard she's doing well.

Fast facts: Ayala will earn four varsity letters in track and field as a middle distance runner. He is competing in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs and the 1,600 and 3,200 relays. He won the 800 at the city meet on May 9. He recorded his personal best of 1 minute, 59 seconds in the 800 in winning the Sauk Prairie regional as a junior. He was fourth in the Division 1 sectional meet in the 800 as a junior. Ayala was a three-time letterwinner in cross country. He served as a co-captain in cross country as a senior when he recorded the second-fastest time on the team - 17:10 - for the 5,000-meter race.

Cumulative grade-point average: 3.8.

Favorite subject: Spanish.

Quick quote: "Competing in sports has taught me how to work hard and do my best."

Three words to describe me are: outgoing, charismatic, diligent.

How I got started in sports: I first started wrestling in first grade and competing in cross country and track and field as a freshman.
