Promega Art Showcase Features Works of Pedro E. Guerrero and Family

MADISON, WISCONSIN (August 14, 2008)

The Promega Fall Art Showcase presents “Pedro E. Guerrero, Beyond Frank Lloyd Right”. Guerrero, best known for his photographs of Frank Lloyd Wright, will also showcase work from his long time association with artists Alexander Calder and Louise Nevelson, 1940’s New York City street scenes and photographs from his freelance years including Julia Child’s kitchen. Exhibiting with Guerrero, will be the members of his talented family include his son, grandsons, granddaughter, nephew and niece.

“Guerrero captured something very special in these great artists,” says Exhibit Producer Daniel Swadener. “The Promega exhibit will show how Guerrero reveals both the truth and beauty of these artists and their work.” Guerrero documented Wright and his architecture for over 20 years into 1959. He spent 13 years recording the art and life of Alexander Calder and 5 years with Louise Nevelson.

Guerrero’s photographs have been exhibited and accessed by galleries and producers nationwide. His work has been displayed at the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Guggenheim Museum. In addition, his photographs were featured in a 1998 PBS documentary on Frank Lloyd Wright by Ken Burns. An exhibit of 60 of Guerrero’s Wright-related photographs is on permanent display at the Monona Terrace Convention Center.

Guerrero will be joined by several other family artists who are also exhibiting their works. Pieces include profound, wooden carved masks by nephew and award winning artist Zarco Guerrero and intricate beaded and carved jewelry by Carmen De Novais Guerrero. Additional artists include Pedro Guerrero’s son Ben, grandsons Alexander and Antonio Guerrero, granddaughter Hannah Guerrero and grand- nephew Quetzal.



“Pedro E. Guerrero, Beyond Frank Lloyd Wright” opens Tuesday, September 9, 2008 and continues through November 21st at the Promega BioPharmaceutical Technology Center (BTC) in Madison. A public art opening reception will be held on Tuesday, September 9 from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. The opening will include celebration of Guerrero’s 91st birthday, book signing and a musical performance by members of the Guerrero Family.

Promega Corporation has sponsored the artist’s showcase at the BTC since 1996 as part of the company’s commitment to creativity and innovation in the arts, cultures and sciences. The BTC, located on 5445 East Cheryl Parkway two miles south of Highway 12/18 (Beltline) off Fish Hatchery Road, was developed, in part, to provide Promega employees and community members a place to pursue these goals.




The exhibit is open Monday through Friday 8 am - 4 pm as of September 9, 2008 and runs through November 21, 2008. Daniel Swadener, in conjunction with Promega, is the producer of the art exhibit.
