Garcia-Romo matchup first with Hispanic quarterbacks

Monday's NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys will mark the first time in NFL history that Hispanic quarterbacks will face each other.

A release from the Eagles said the fathers of Philadelphia quarterback Jeff Garcia and Dallas quarterback Tony Romo both were born in Mexico, making it what is believed to be the first such historic matchup.

Ironically, both Garcia and Romo took over for incumbents earlier this season. Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb suffered a torn ACL and Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe was benched.

On November 4, 1973, Jim Plunkett started for the New England Patriots against Roman Gabriel of the Eagles in what was believed to be the first all-Hispanic matchup.

However, the Pro Football Hall of Fame noted that Gabriel was not Hispanic but of Filipino and Irish descent.
